Orange Is The New Black (spoilers)

Hello lovelies!
I've just finished that latest series of OITNB and I have been moved by the powerful scenes in the last two episodes. Of course, world wide we know of the police brutality that occurs on the streets of America but to see it in action was distressing. Now I know it's acting but the actors and actresses that make up this Emmy award winning cast perform so well that the audience, when watching, are encapsulated in the prison world.

The scene that I am referencing is the tragic death of Poussey Washington. How a peaceful protest could end in a murder is what I think most viewers are distressed over. I would like to congratulate the writers on choosing to centre the story around a black life because I believe if Poussey were white this situation wouldn't have occurred. Previously to this a guard, Humps, made crazy eyes fight with another prisoner which triggered her mental instability. During the peaceful protest Crazy eyes set eyes upon Humps and this sent her into a frenzy. Bailey was told to apprehend her nut, seeing this was distressing her friend further, Washington tried to help out. This resulted in Bailey pressing too hard on Washington's back and so she died through suffocation. this scene had me tears and I'm sure it had you reading this in the same state!

Throughout the series racial hate had been brought up time and time again, not only to the black characters but also aimed towards Dominican and other races. They have portrayed American society perfectly in this series and by putting it on a very popular show raises awareness for the reality that their government have to face up to; police brutality and racism has to stop.

The crescendo to the series was a mass brawl after Taystee listened into the conference where the warden, Caputo, defended the officer who killed Washington. This conference is something I want to discuss. Yes Bailey, the officer, didn't mean to kill Washington, he had no proper training and 'was just trying to help'. He was extremely remorseful and didn't even realise she was dead so he clearly had no intention of killing her. however, Caputo should have also defended Washington. She deserved to have a voice and he should have represented her in a better light. I'm glad he stood up to the MCC but he should've done it in a way that meant the public knew Washington's name.

I just wanted to write a small piece on how the directors, writers and actors have played and carried out this scene with such care and devotion that it has really opened my eyes to the horror that occurs in America. Racism needs to stop, especially in the society that we live, we are developed and educated. Occurrences should never happen in this day and age and OITNB has shone a light on an issue that needs to be urgently addressed.

30 things I want to do before I'm 30

Hi lovelies! I'm turning 18 soon and thought it would be a good idea to write this post and then come back to it when I turn 30 and see if I could tick all of the thing off of the list! Having a check list for me means that I'm more obligated to go ahead with my ideas rather than pushing them to the back of my mind and backing it of them. SO here we go! 30: Have a spontaneous holiday. Go to the airport and just get a plane. I think this would be so much fun! 29: Fall in love. I know very cheesy but if I haven't fallen in love by the time I'm 30 I may as well be Bridget Jones; become a spinster and be eaten by wild Alsatians. If you've seen the film you'd get that reference! 28: Be in a job I love! Listen up future me if you aren't in a job you love leave it now and get one you do! There's no point in working somewhere that doesn't motivate you to get up every morning. 27: Had the courage to start up Youtube again. I posted some videos last year...

Let's talk about sex!

Hello lovelies! I would like to start by saying thank you for the great response I've received about last weeks post! So many people have contacted me through social media and people in my year at school have said that it was helpful and relatable so thank you! Now as you can probably tell from the title this weeks post is going to be surrounding the subject of sex. Yep, sex. That dreaded word. For some people the topic is easily approachable and they have no problem with communicating their feelings about it. However some find it a taboo subject and it's difficult to convey what they want to say without being judged. This is what I want to talk about this week; to begin a discussion about sex and the pressures that it brings to young people. For me personally it's not the people I interact with sexually that pressure me, I feel pressure from social expectation. I got to the age of around 14/15 and people in my year at school started to experience it and I started to qu...
