Hello lovelies!
I went to see the new Jungle Book movie at the weekend and I thought I'd do a short review for you.
I saw it in IMAX 3D which was the best decision that we made (we being me and my friends Kitty and Rochelle). This enabled us to feel as if we were in the movie ourselves due to the amazing visual affects throughout this movie. From outstanding landscapes to the attention to detail on King Louie's palace. Everything looks breath-taking in this movie.
On top of this is the sound effects. The music is to the mark on this film. In times of anticipation the music was so well built up that I was hiding behind my hands waiting for something to jump out at me. Another point I'd like to raise about the music is that I love that the director and other makers of this film weren't scared to put the songs we all know and love into this movie. The other recent Disney remakes have shied away from this and I think this is what makes The Jungle Book so much better than the others; it's not afraid to be what it's supposed to be. Don't let this comment fool you into believing this movie is a musical. oh no. they only include the two famous songs, bare necessities and I wanna be like you, but featuring them made me feel like a kid again.
When I saw the casting for this movie I was excited to see it as there were big names featured; Idris Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken e.t.c, but it also made me a bit apprehensive. Usually when there are voice actors in an animation I usually make a comment like 'oh that's Idris Alba' and so on but in this movie it felt very natural and instead of listening out for the well known actors you felt transfixed by the characters.
My favourite two performance were by Idris Alba, who played Shere Khan:
In this movie Shere Khan seems more of a villain than the original Jungle Book (1967). The way in which he is performed by Idris and his new up to date animated appearance makes him more scary and unpredictable. He is the perfect villain to make this movie unpredictable; I like films where you don't know what is going to happen. Of course if you have watched the original then you have an idea of the plot line, this addition does make a few changes to the story though. For me though it had been so long since I had watched the original that I couldn't remember the plot and so Shere Khan made it interesting and engaging.
The other villain within this movie was portrayed by the wonderful Christopher Walken; King Louie
Similarly to Shere Khan, Walken's performance and King Louie's new appearance adds to the tension of the movie. I think Louie was my personal favourite as his song, I wanna be like you, was my favourite as a kid so I was in my element when it came on! But also I was amazed by the graphics of King Louie himself and his palace. It was breath taking!
Overall I would rate this movie a 9/10. It is by far the best movie I have ever watched in the cinema. The only reason that I haven't given it a 10/10 is the slight story line changes; I won't spoil it for you! Go and see it, it will blow you away!
